This story about Donut Dollies in the Vietnam is a follow up on the sequence (scroll down) on their precursers, the Vivandiers-or Daughters of the Regiment in the Civil War.

Donut-Dollies vietnam

Vivandieres - Daughters of the Regiment

A term seldom heard of, Vivandiers, goes back to France in the 13th century. In Civil War America, they were known as Daughters of the Regiment; in Vietnam of the 1960s they were "Donut Dollies."
In this sequence, I have singled out one woman, Anna Etheridge from Michigan. Others include:
Kady Brownell of the 1st Rhode Island Infantry
Marie Tebe (French Mary) of the 114th Pennsylvania Volunteers
Sarah Taylor - 1st Tennessee (US)
Ella Gibson - 49th Ohio
Eliza Wilson - 5th Wisconsin
Lucy Ann Cox - 13 Virginia (Confederate)
Beidget Divers - 1st Michigan Cavalry

Flashbacks Volume One
A Cartoon of the District of Columbia Flashbacks Volume One Patrick M. Reynolds brings history to life with a sense of humor. His exciting drawings put you on the scene with the conflicts, madness, plus the wheeling and dealing that resulted in the location and construction of the U.S. capital city. This book covers the early history of DC from 1776 to 1863. You'll be surprised at how many cities served as the U.S. capital; you'll be amazed that the city was built--despite all the bickering, petty jealousies, and down-right stupidity.
